My Job Works For Me

September 16, 2012

The beauty of having a proper professional education and training as an esthetician is that (almost) everything you can do for your clients, you can do for yourself.

Tonight that included a much needed lip wax and eyebrow shaping and just for good measure I threw in a Lactic Acid peel. I course I was careful to avoid applying the peel to my freshly waxed skin. It’s taken me years to feel comfortable waxing myself. As much as i hate doing it, I have too. My lip needs to be waxed every 3 weeks, although I never remember until I have gone 5+ weeks. Then I am forced to try to either remember to wax myself before I leave my office, which I won’t even consider doing if I am not going straight home. Or I have to set everything up in my bathroom and do it before I go to bed. Thank god I keep a separate kit at home for waxing myself.

My eyebrows are another story. I am picky. To the point of obnoxious. Only two people have ever truly waxed me properly. One I have lost contact with, and the other I never remember to make appointments with. I do beautiful brow waxes on other people. I have a small cult following. I’ve been well trained by the gal I can never remember to make appointments with. I can do a decent enough job on myself. I wax and shape them about every 2 months. In between I tweeze and trim the hairs, and after 3 weeks I get fed up and spend the next 5 weeks cursing my laziness every morning.

Thank goodness I manage to look put together everyday otherwise my clients might think twice about letting me wax them.

The much needed peel should be the perk up I need. Although I think I could use a stronger level of peel, it will rev up my cellular turnover rates and keep me not looking my age. Between my oily skin, twice monthly peels, and what I am guessing is good genes, I have been blessed to not yet have wrinkles, or grey hair. I will enjoy the moment though because I am sure my turn is coming. πŸ™‚
