The hardest adjustment for me every year when football season ends is my husband’s schedule. This year will be no exception. He tells me today that he will be home “early”. That meant picking me up an hour before he normally gets home to go meet another couple for dinner. Um, yeah. Early. Ok.

This week wrestling practice starts. He went today but isn’t going to go everyday this week to finish regrouping from football. He gets up at 5 am and if he doesn’t hit the snooze button, he leaves by 5:30. Weights is at 7, school day starts at 8:20. He gets out sometime around 3 pm and then the kids who play sports have a required study hall period after school for about an hour. Practice usually runs till 6:30pm. He comes home, eats and most nights falls asleep on the couch by 9:30. (tonight he is watching a DVD on weight lifting in our bedroom, I am downstairs watching CSI: Miami reruns.)

Our time together is limited. That doesn’t change when football ends even when he is not coaching additional sports. Weekends are our time. I just wish sometimes I got him more during the week. Sometimes I could really use the company.
