Weekend Refelction

December 17, 2012

It was that kind of weekend that I felt incomplete over. I didn’t get enough done or maybe I did too much. I was off pretty early on Friday (but worked the better half of the day Saturday) and CC and I spent the afternoon and evening together with K. CC said that once he heard of the tragedy in Connecticut he just wanted to come home.

As a teacher, Friday’s event was his worst nightmare come true. He loves kids of all ages, even though he only works with high schoolers. It devastates him that those beautiful babies won’t ever get their high school experiences. No child should ever have to experience that. CC deals primarily with special Ed and emotionally disturbed children. He worries about the ability of the surviving children and their families to get the help they need to cope and move forward with a “normal” life. He knows that statistically some of those children will never be able to function in a regular school again. It’s heart breaking. We’ve talked about making a donation, but will most likely send money to the survivor’s fund so they have sufficient funding for treatments. I told him I would find out where that money needs to go.

We spend a good portion of the weekend discussing new furniture for the living room. It was one of those discussions where we both have very different views of what should happen. We need to have good seating in the living room, but we also need space to function. This morning we agreed on a couch and sofa set that was practically brand new on craigslist. He’s supposed to be talking to the gal later. We’ll see.

I have an easy work day today. Just one shellac manicure that I actually just have to fix. Work has slowed for the pending holiday, but I am finally getting some good gift certificate sales going. Can’t believe Christmas is in a week, I’m not ready, but in 2 weeks I will be looking at the ocean and working my way through a rather large stack of magazines and books.

  1. Fridays events have touched us all over the world. I know it has been a story we have had on the news daily since it happened and we have all been following it in Ireland with heavy hearts 😦 He is quite right to wish to be at home after something like that, I think it was something that made us all wish to be closer to our own families and to hold our children extra tight x

    • We have no children of our own, but have many friends and family with children we love dearly. Even last night we discussed the events further. CC emailed the local high School’s head football coach and wanted to know if there was anything that our kids could help with his kids with. CC is also sending a jersey that our kids are all signing to the chief of police. It seems natural to reach out. It’s so heart breaking.
