Much Needed Vacation Beauty Haul

January 3, 2013

So in my last minute packing for my 5 night coastal getaway, I forgot to pack some things that I typically do pack. Things like nail clippers, or at least a nail file. My intention was to bring the basics for manicuring so I could least take off my Saturday party polish because I knew I would end up chipping it. I forgot to pack all these little things. Damn it.

Yesterday I noticed that I had a huge chip in my gorgeous blue toenail polish. About 5 minutes after that I proceeded to stub my toe into a chair and chip more polish and break the toe nail. Crap. Plus, my finger nails reached a level of being chipped that was bordering on intolerable.

Luckily for me there is a CVS in this town and I was able to make a stop by there today. I ended up spending $80 but came away with some fun items, including a few things I had never tried.

I also found some very discontinued OPI polishes which are not supposed to be sold at CVS. They are not an authorized retailer of OPI and are there because of diversion. I typically do not buy products that I find at unauthorized retailers, in fact I even report it. This time I did buy them, i’m sorry. Finding 3 colors that were long discontinued were too hard to pass up.

Upon getting home from my little shopping adventure I immediately clipped my obnoxious toenails. I then proceeded to remove the polish from them and my finger nails. I bought the Sally Hansen Cuticle Eraser and Balm and I rubbed a generous amount into my nail beds on my feet and hands. That stuff is pretty much amazing and I am positively in love with how healthy and happy my cuticles look and feel.

I still had forgotten to get a nail file so I proceeded to simply paint my nails with the strengthening base coat I picked up. I painted my toes with OPI’s Peru-b-ruby and my fingers with Sally Hansen’s Hard as Nails Black Out. Both got a top coat of the Hard as Nails Top Coat. I managed to badly smudge a toe nail as soon as i finished but since I was drinking a hard cider cocktail while doing my nails (hey, I am on vacation!), I forgave myself and had a brownie.

There’s another product I picked up that I am in love with but I am going to devote another post just to it because I am delighted with it. I think this is the first vacation in nearly 10 years that I splurged on beauty products while away. I did that in Hawaii twice before, coming home with things that I have never been able to find on the main land. I’ll be home in a few days and I will hopefully have some new manicures to share with you in the coming weeks.
