Game 8 2013

October 30, 2013

Game 8 was kind of a big deal last week. Not only was it the last home game of the season, it was the last home game that would ever been played on that field. In two weeks, after football season (and I think Boy’s Soccer is done for the year too), the district is breaking ground on a brand new football stadium with turf field. Very exciting. It addition, it was also Senior night. These seniors would be lat to play on the original field.

But I’m forgetting the biggest part, we won. WE WON! A 29 game losing streak has been broken. And we didn’t just win, it was a near shut out at 49-6. The kids played with everything they had. It was amazing to see the student body empty out of the stands and run onto the field to celebrate. I couldn’t help but cry as I watched the celebration. This was a huge win. Our kids needed it, the school needed it, our coaching staff needed it, and my husband needed it. He says he’s never worked so hard for a win in all his life. It was beautiful. it was a feeling that hope I never forget.

Through all the crap we’ve dealt with, this was the grand prize we needed. The light at the end of the tunnel. Everything came together. Everyone committed to being a part of this team to the fullest extent, and we got a win. The goal now is to win tomorrow. (We play one Thursday night game a season, and this year it’s on Halloween.) It has been a challenging journey, and we celebrated all weekend.

After the game I was walking out of the stadium with J and N (love that they come out to support us!) and M, and the principal stopped us to give M his credit card. Our instructions were to start to the tab. All drinks were on him. Nine of us, including K who showed up to surprise us and congratulate the coaches, drank, told stories and relished the moment. It was worth every minute of previous heartache, now we can enjoy success and move forward with that.

If you are going to win, might as well go big. It was one of the proudest moments in my married life. I am so proud of my husband.
