2013 Football Season Is Over

November 14, 2013

Football is over for this year. I’m actually sad. Our brief winning streak really pumped up the excitement. It was amazing to see the payoff after all the drama we’ve put up with. It’s strange knowing that tomorrow night I don’t have to bundle up, grab my stadium blanket and drive myself out to some high school 30 minutes away. Some years I can’t wait for it to be over, this year is the opposite.

Typically I look forward to the long stretch. Between November and January. I see it as a time to reconnect with CC, time to clean my house and time to relax. This year he’s not coaching wrestling so he’ll be home. He’s getting highlight films ready for a few kids and marketing those players to scouts. There’s a huge possibility for several of them to be at major universities next year. Even with our 2-8 record, our kids put up major numbers, and we had the Offensive MVP for our league.

This season was amazing for my marriage too. CC and I are in the best place we’ve ever been. The craziness brought us closer together. We’re finding a rhythm that suits us and our relationship. After 3 and a half years of learning and growing, this was the first football season that the two of us bonded as a team unit. No fights, just smooth communication and lots of emotionally availability.

Honestly though, all the drama made all of us closer. M said it the other night. Our little football family unit is stronger then ever. We’ve realized that we can count on each other and that we all lift one another up to reach the hopes and dreams for these kids and this team. We realized that we can come together when faced with horrible parents and crazy bullshit.

CC is hiring a few new coaches, he’s making adjustments for next year. We are getting fundraisers ready and looking to next year. Excited for next season and what this coming year holds for us and the kids.
