DIY Facial Mask

July 25, 2014

I have always been a sucker for a great facial mud mask. Hell, I’m a sucker for a killer facial mask anyway. I’ve been dying to try the GlamGlow mask, but for $70, I cannot justify it. I’ve been seeing several DIY recipes online, so I figured I’d give it a shot. Plus, a lot of the ingredients I had on hand already.

I tweaked the recipe I found a little bit, but here’s what I did:

2 tables spoons of coconut oil
1 table spoon of pure aloe vera
1/4 cup of Aztec Secret clay mask (I purchased mine from Amazon, only after that did I discover that my local grocery store carried and for a cheaper price. Live and learn.)
3-4oz of strongly steeped green tea
8 capsules of activated charcoal
1/4 tablespoon of tea tree oil

I have to say I love this mask. It’s not as drying as the clay was alone, and after the first use, I saw a remarkable difference. I put the mask in a sealable container that I am keeping in the fridge. It should keep between 1-2 months.

I usually mask 1 time a week, I’ve done a mask twice this week because I didn’t get as dry as I usually do after my at mask (I’m thanking the coconut oil!). My skin is brighter, clearer and less oily.

Additionally, this mask was so much fun to make! CC is used to seeing beauty products in our fridge, so he didn’t flinch. I just loved how simple it was to make, especially since all I had to go buy was the charcoal. I’m sure I can make some other beauty times from stuff in my kitchen. I’m curious to try!
