8th Season as Coach’s Wife

August 22, 2016

It’s that time of the year again. The time where the rest of the world seems to come to a screeching halt and we make way for the thing we work all year for: FOOTBALL SEASON.

I use the term “we” because as the head coach’s wife, my contribution might not be that as of a coach, but rather as a support system and sounding board. I have to admit, as I go into my eighth season(!) as a coach’s wife, I’ve come into my own in knowing my roll as the backbone of the support system. I’m the rallier of friends, the buyer or beer, the queen of keeping people together. I know I sound ridiculous and full of myself. But this is a tough job. Someone has to do it. Since I married CC, that is my job, and I do take it quite seriously.

Ultimately, it’s a lot of fun. Friday nights are the nights of lost sleep. Nights of too many laughs (occasionally tears). Nights of late night kitchen dance parties and celebratory toasts. Nights of rehashing plays and figuring out what went wrong. Nights spent with people that have become the most amazing family of friends a girl could ever ask for. Or a coach for that matter!

Season opener is this Friday night at home. 5th season at this school. 3rd season in our still sparking brand new stadium. I won’t make any projections or predictions because I too have become very superstitious over the years and I have specific routines I follow and traditions to maintain. Right now I’m simply preparing for a night of fun and making sure that I have everything I need:

Lucky scarf? ✔️

Handwritten love note? ✔️

Gear bag of goodies? ✔️

Bleacher blanket freshly washed? ✔️

Green team Tshirt? ✔️

New air horns? ✔️

Camping chair for personal seating section? Still in CC’s truck, must get out this week! 😁

My group of supportive friends? Geared up and ready to go!

Whew! It’s going to be a great season! Here’s to the next 12-15 weeks! Go Cougars!
